Calos Bulosan

Our EEP teacher Ms. Eliz let us pick which author we would like to blog and this is the author I have pick Carlos Bulosan. I get his Biography on the internet.

Carlos Bulosan

Carlos Bulosan was born in Pangasinan, a province on the island of Luzon in the Philippines, on November 2, 1911, near the end of a tumultuous period in his country’s history. In 1896, the Filipinos had begun a successful revolt against Spanish rule, and they expected to be granted independence after Spain ceded the Philippines to the United States in the treaty that ended the Spanish-American War of 1898. Instead, the United States annexed the islands, and American troops brutally suppressed the Philippines Insurrection of 1899-1902, though fighting continued until 1913. The years of bloody conflict, during which an estimated two hundred thousand to one million civilians died of disease and starvation, left the country impoverished. Although little is known about his childhood, Bulosan recalled:

"I lived in Mangusmana with my father until I was seven years old. We lived in a small grass hut; but it was sufficient because we were peasants. My father could not read or write, but he knew how to work his one hectare of land, which was the sole support of our big family."

Bulosan attended American-style schools, but left high school after three semesters in order to work to help support the family. Like thousands of other Filipinos, including two older brothers who had gone to California, Bulosan believed that he would find greater freedom and economic opportunity in the United States. He consequently booked passage in steerage aboard a steamer bound for Seattle, Washington.

After the entry of the United States into World War II, Bulosan became the major literary voice of Filipino Americans. The war was a complicated issue for the Pinoy, who were intensely aware of the injustices in the United States but who were eager to participate in the effort to drive the Japanese from the conquered Philippines.  Bulosan in an autobiographical sketch written in 1955 observed that he had
been impelled to write by his “grand dream of equality among men and freedom for all,” as well as his desire “to translate the desires and aspirations of the whole Filipino people in the Philippines and abroad in terms relevant to contemporary history.” Bulosan died in Seattle of tuberculosis on September 11, 1956, leaving behind the manuscript of a posthumously published novel about the twentieth-century history of the Philippines, The Cry and the Dedication (1995).

Carlo Bulosan is a good author for me. He help us fought for our justice. I know he will never be forget.

Dream - Your Dream defines YOU

Dream is something that sets your present work to a future goal, it can be a vision of hope or vision of a future you want to reach.

When we say  DREAM as I had said, it is your mind set to achieve something but also a dream is where we feel a sequence of sensation, image, thoughts and many more that passes through our minds when we are sleeping.

How does our dream defines us?

We perceive things we want because that is what we want to see ourselves in in the future, it is where our ambitions are put into hard-work and timelessly act of perseverance just for the sake of achieving our set dream or goal. Therefore our dream is an image of ourselves that concludes that we are what WE DREAM of.

When we reach the point when we sleep and the imaginative world of our dream takes place, it is where what our thoughts and imagination comes in. The super powers we want, the girl or boy we admire, the popularity we wish and for some the simplest act of love we pray for are the ones we have in our sweetest dreams. This is where our creativity and our wishes do come true. Also nightmares cannot be excluded because we all experience it once in a while. This form of dreams or bad dreams are sometimes the reflection of the things we really hate or we are really scared of in the realms of reality.

Whether we say that our dreams our somewhat not that high or just simple indeed, we individuals should respect each of our own ambitions in life because we all differs from each other and that whats make our DREAMS also different from one another.

Always remember our DREAMS defines us.

High School Speech Competion

We didn't have class for entire day. They let us watched the High School Speech Competition in the auditorium. The high school students become more nervous that there will be no longer illumination  round because some of the contestant will no longer come. So it will be a final round only.

I can see that some high school students are shy to perform in front but I admire them because they did it very well. I admire those students who share their life stories to us. I wish I could talked to them and just give some piece of advice that will help them. They really touched our hearts I know god will always be with us just keep holding on. They are really brave for overcoming their fear. I know their coaches really did great job teaching their students.

Each of the contestant give their all and it was all worth it. They caught their audience to listen to them. like the guy who has a so called " sexy voice " makes my classmates feel giddy. And I admire the cute chubby guy who loves her mother so much. I was amazed to the young lady who won because she is so admirable and strong to bravely share her stories to us. She's a great strong pretty lady. I really admire her for handling such problems and I know she will be successful in the future. :)

I really hope I can be like them that can overcome their fear and being strong. I also want to have their public speaking skills. lol. hahahah had fun watching them.

Ma'am. Eliz let us watched the movie of the Phantom of the Opera.
At first I thought that it was boring and I will not liked it. I didn't know that it was all about music that I'm into. I really had fun watching it.
heres the plot summary written by shinyhappypeoples in IMDb

The story of a young chorus girl, Christine - a young talented singer who, with the right training, could become world famous. While rehearsing at the Opera Populaire, where weird and unexplainable things happen, she captures the attention and the heart of The Phantom, or as the Opera Populaire call him...The Opera Ghost. But he is not a ghost - he is a disfigured musical genius who has hidden away for years to avoid the cruel stares of strangers. With the Phantoms help, Christine becomes the venue's leading lady, but tragedy awaits as the young soprano has fallen for the charms of handsome noble Viscount Raoul De Chagny, not realizing her Angel of Music is deeply in love with her. Insane with jealousy and unable to see the object of his affection, and ultimately is obsession, in the arms of another man, The Phantom kidnaps Christine - unaware of the lengths Raoul is prepared to go to get her back.

I was really happy watching it. After I watched it I'm always singing the song they sung I cant get it off my mind. I'm always dreaming to be a classical singer and hoping that someday I will be given opportunity for my singing career. I also dreamed of  being Christine in the play someday. I really love everything The characters , The play, EVERYTHING.

Media Literacy Seminar

I really enjoy this seminar because the speakers are good. I did not expect that I will enjoy this seminar because I'm not into writing. I just listened to them because we will have a quiz about it. I listened to them because I'm interested of what they're saying. I learned a lot of things when it comes to writing.

The first speaker talked about how to write effectively. All the tips she gave us can be use in our future. We should not always forget the question " so what?" why should the readers care? Answering that question will improve your writing skills. She shared to us the Art of Interview.

1. Embrace the silence
2. Do not be afraid to play dumb
3. takes not for more questions
4. Research is a process of gathering data, not the result
5. Start strong

The second speaker discussed the social issues. I'm impressed the way she handle herself in front talking about social issues. She said that why is it that people don't even bother to notice people that needs help people that are in danger. People just want entertainment. Some important topics are not been talked about because we are just focusing on things that are entertaining us. We could have been saving lives if we only knew.

The last speaker talked about the role of the media and advocacy journalism. The media has three roles: to inform, to educate and to entertain. While advocacy journalism, should always look at all the sides of the issue to promote fairness. Corroboration is also important.

I really had fun listening to them and learning so much things. We should not just write we should think what should we write and how to write effectively.

Speech Choir Competition

I will never forget the Speech Choir Competition. It was awesome and we really work hard in preparing our costumes, props, and how we will deliver the speech. All of us did the great job and I know we really had fun. Though its quite sad because this is the end of our English term.
I'm really happy for all of us because I know we all work hard for this.

When we are practicing our speech choir we had some little misunderstandings but we still cope up with it. There are times that are practice are always delayed because we forgot to reserve rooms and some of our classmates are already gone. But we thank our leaders for leading us even if we are lazy and naughty. Special thanks to our Choreographer who work hard for our steps. Though sometimes our leaders will shout at us we understand it and we still loved them even if they already turned as a monster (kidding). All of our hard works are worth it because we won. WE ARE THE CHAMPION. I'm really proud that TM won but I'm still happy for all our components. You did a great job guys we know it.

We will not win if we don't have a good leaders and of course if we don't have team work.
We go home late because of this. But I know its all worth it. Its just makes me sad because I will miss this kinds of competition. Because of this our relationship to each other becomes strong. We know each other better now. We thank all of our English teachers for making our English term happy and for giving us knowledge. because of them we overcome our fear in English.

Ignite Speech

I was really amazed when I watched ignite speakers in front of the stage. They're all good especially my classmate Charella. They have a good grammar and the way they speak is really good. I know they are all nervous because they are in front of many people. I admire them for showing confidence in front and over coming their fear. We are still proud of you Cha for over coming your fear.

Before the ignite speech competition. We had our own ignite where we all prepare speech and power point. At first I was scared that I might failed because I think my speech aren't good. When I delivered my speech it was almost good but I failed in my last paragraph but I still cope up with it. After my speech all of my classmates congratulates me because I did good. They even tell me that I might be chosen to be the ignite speaker of our class. Sadly , I was not but I'm still happy and proud of myself. I'm happy for Charella because I know that she will do good than me. I'm still happy because I got a high grade.

I'm happy for the guy who win and for those who had a place. You are all winner for us because you overcome your fear and prove yourself. We really had fun watching you guys doing it well. WE ARE ALL PROUD OF YOU!

Public Speaking Contest

I really had fun in the Public Speaking Contest. I was lucky to be one in the 6 students that my teacher choose to compete with other students in other blocks. At first I felt nervous because I still didn't memorize the last paragraph of my speech so I had to remove it. When I deliver my speech it was almost good but at the last paragraph of my speech I started to stutter when look at the judges. But even if I did not make it in the final round at least I experience it. I still did it , overcoming my fear and I'm still lucky that my teacher trust me on this.

I was really happy for those students who make it to the final round especially to my classmates Pam and Mil they are my best friends. All of the students who compete in the final round was good. And I'm so happy that my classmate was the 2nd runner we are still proud of him. He did great job overcoming his fear and proving himself to the other people that he can. Before my teacher choose who will compete in the Public Speaking Contest my teacher ask us to have a News report and Persuasive speech. He gave me a high grade in our News Report because he told me that I did good among the other reporters. When he is about to call the name of the students that he choose I was really nervous but when I finally hear my name I was very happy because he trust me.

Though I did not make it to the final round I'm still happy and proud of myself because I make my mom and dad proud of me. I know that its not easy to compete with other students especially those students who are fluent in speaking English. At first I was scared because I'm not good in English I don't know how to answer if the judges ask me. I'm scared at people because they might laugh if I answer it wrong or my grammar is not appropriate. And now see? I've overcome my fear in Public Speaking. A piece of advice for those people who are like me, you should not under estimate yourself just believe that you can do it and if you want to do it don't be scared. KAYA YAN!

Plagiarism

What is plagiarism?
Plagiarism is copying another's work or his/her original ideas.

Many people do this thing especially students. Sometimes when students have an assignment they tend to xerox their classmates work. I know most of the students didn't know that it was already plagiarism. I've seen many people like to put quotes in their caption without credit of the owner, do you know that it is also consider as plagiarism? Yes it is because you're copying other people ideas.

Did you know that plagiarism is consider as a crime now? According to my research plagiarism carries a penalty of 3-6 years imprisonment and a fine of (50,000-150,000.00), if prosecuted under the law. So if you want to borrow quotes from others you should put a credits. We should be very careful of what we are copying. We should know plagiarism for us to be aware.

I remember when I was in high school my teacher gave an assignment, so what I did is I ask my classmates work and xerox it. Her format is exactly the same as mine so my teacher gave her a punishment I didn't know that it was really for me. She makes me feel guilty and realize that what I did is bad. She pretend to get mad at my classmate because she is " lazy " just want a grade without studying, I feel bad that time and I bravely tell her that it was my fault.

How can we avoid plagiarism?

1. Paraphrase- If you have found information that fits for your assignment, you need to read it and put it into your own words. You should not just copy and paste it because it is consider plagiarism already.

2. Gave credit to everything he/she said- If you want to put a quotes that you just search on the google you should also  put the owner of that quotes

3. Referencing- Its very important to put a reference where you get the information. You should put the website where you found the information. Its because it is easy to search the words in the google and it will just appear.

The best way is to think of your own IDEA.

Ang Tatay Mong Kalbo

Ang Tatay Mong Kalbo (The bald Soprano)

The play is about two families talking nonsense. At first I'm really confused because I don't get what they are talking about. Why are they like that and what are they doing. But I like the play because it was funny and makes me wonder what the story wants to tell. My blockmate is one of the actor in the play and he plays as Hepe. Of course we are proud him. They really act good.

The maid maria makes me laugh the most. The way she moves and talks is really funny. When the next family arrived it confused me more. They are talking to each other and asking that they met already in the same time and place. They forgot that they are married and they just referring to themselves. I like it when they are telling a story even if i don't get it so well. And the time that someone click the doorbell but there is no one outside. that's the time they are arguing. The boys said if someone is knocking there is a person outside and the girls said It doesn't mean that if someone is knocking there is a person outside. That's the time Hepe comes. And they start to tells a story about animals, fire , all of none sense things.

The story is tells that we are just like them we likes to talk about none sense. Sometimes we tend to repeat what we already say. We easily forgot things. Likes to talk about other people.
All I can say is I really enjoyed the play and how they act.

Turn Left Turn Right

I believed that we all have someone that is destined to be with us. Life is full of surprises you'll never know who you are going to meet that will change your life and makes you happy forever. Don't be afraid if your destined partner haven't yet come. Sometimes you've been mocked by fate. Like the movie Turn left, Turn Right this is a great movie.

The story tells of two people who lives right next to each other, separated only by a wall, and are always nearby each other but can't seem to find one another.
John Liu is a violinist. During one of his gigs, he meets June, the girl who offers to give him a ride at home. She flirts aggressively with John during the ride which scared him. To get away from her he jumps out of her car and run fast so that the girl will not follow him. The next day he saw her waiting for him on the left corner of his building he was able to elude the girl by avoiding going to the left side of his building.

Eve Choi is a translator of a book publishing company. Her job is to translate foreign books into Chinese. She is given a daunting task , she needs to translate a horror novel into Chinese. At night while she is translating the horror novel she gets scared and thinks that her home is haunted. The next day she notices a scary-looking tree to the right of her apartment building and, frightened, she refuses to go to the right of her building.

They finally met each other by accident at the park fountain. While Eve is writing the paper accidentally fallen to fountain. John immediately calls her attention and help her to pick the paper. They found out that they met each other already in the past when they are young.
Eve is the girl who that John is referring to. When they knew it they became close to each other.
Suddenly it rains so they run then they saw the two people who is asking for them to pay the rent. They ask each others phone number. But unfortunately the number they had was ruined because its wet.

The last part is when they need to leave because they decided to take jobs abroad, an earthquake strikes that destroyed the wall that separate their apartment. Finally they find each other.

Don't look for your destined partner because if you are really meant to be you will find each other.

PARASYTE

After we watched this movie it makes me cover my ears and nose , because I imagined
the parasite in the movie might enter into my ears also. This is a great movie to watch.

The story is about a 17 years old boy named Izumi Shinichi that lives in a quiet neighborhood
in Tokyo. One night, worm-like aliens called parasyte invade the earth, controlling the brains
of human hosts by entering through their ears and noses. One parasyte attempts to crawl into
Shinichi's ears , but fails because he is wearing a headphones , the parasyte burrow into his arms instead. The parasyte named Migi is now taking over the hand of Shinichi. Because
Shinichi successfully prevent Migi from traveling into his brain , They both retain their separate intellect and personality. They capitalize on their unusual situation and gradually form a strong bond, that is working together to survive. This gives them an edge in fighting other Parasytes, who continually attack the pair upon realization that Shinichi's human brain is still untouched. Shinichi feels compelled to fight other Parasytes, who devour humans as food, while enlisting Migi's help.

They come in silence and darkness, descending from the skies that starve for human flesh. Parasites - alien creatures who must invade and take control of a human host to survive - have come to earth. The humanity is suffering from murders all over the globe, called "Mincemeat murders". No one knows the secret except high school student, Shinichi Izumi, who's right hand has been invaded by a Parasyte. Shinichi and Migi, the Parasite, begrudgingly form a friendship in the middle of a silent war between humanity and the Parasites.

Shinichi loves his mother very much. Mr. A waited shinichi to pass so that he can kill him but he didn't succeed because shinichi stabbed him first. When they leave A , shinichi's mother is
walking unfortunately near A so he decided to move to her body. When her mother arrived Migi immediately tell shinichi that A is already controlling his moms brain. They need to kill her  first because if they don't he will get killed first. Shinichi don't want to believed him at first
because he can't accept that his mom already gone. So Shinichi keeps on telling his mom to stop making fun of him. When Shinichi can't think well A take the opportunity and stabbed him in
the heart. Luckily Shinichi survive and returned his consciousness , because of Migi used some piece of him to cover up holes in shinichi's body and heart.

I hate the part that the time comes that he needed to kill his mother. When they are fighting Shinichi almost get killed because he was deceived but again his mother saved him so he succeed in killing his mom. It was a heart breaking scene for me. I'm so glad that there was a part 2 of this movie.

SOM WEEK

One most awaited event in in the school year is SOM week, where every SOM students and everyone enjoys different events and activities that are held during that week.

These SOM week is one of the most happiest events for me this school year. All students comming from School Of Management enjoys participating in sports, games, educational seminars and many more activities. Even different student participated in the said activities/events.

ANTI-SMOKING CAMPAIGN

why do people start smoking?

Most of people start smoking as teens. Some teens say that they " Just wanted to try it ," or thought they look "cool " if they smoke. Some people smoke because they say that they have a problem and they think it lessens their stress. For me smoking just adds more problem to you.

All of these things are not an excuse to smoke, maybe some will arguably speak that its easy for me to say it cause I don't smoke at all. But if you'll just understand smoking is like hurting yourself and harming other people as well I know you will probably stop nor try smoking.

Smoking at any form will bring no good to you and to your surroundings. Smoking is one main reason why many people suffers from lung, heart and other respiratory diseases that kills millions of people every year. Smoking can also makes your body smell bad and your teeth becomes yellowish or brownish in color. Smoking is also one way to commit suicide slowly. There are long term effects of smoking that will surely kill you and short term effects that will lessen your productivity. It’s hard to quit smoking, but you can do it. To have the best chance of quitting and staying a non-smoker, you need to know what you’re up against and what your options are. Go find yourself reason not to smoke.
Why not engage to sports, dancing, singing or other social activities that will help you become more healthy than smoking that can gradually makes you weak. If you are thinking of trying to smoke , STOP. There are more reason not to smoke than to smoke. No matter how you smoke it, tobacco is dangerous to your health and affects your entire body.

Hey It's me

Who Am I ?

-IamMe

Tall, quite, behave and introvert, that is the total opposite of ME.

When I say ME I am talking about the person everyone knows, the person who is happy and loud all the time, the one who cheers up other people and the total opposite of the word SADNESS.

Who is SADNESS
-sadnessWithinMe

Not because I'm the cheerful one it means that I have no problems at all. It is simply what everyone else does, THEY WEAR THEIR OWN MASKS. This is not a way of not telling the truth but in some way, this is an act of saving others from being affected of what I am experiencing. SADNESS is just a piece of what I am and FAITH gives me time to let all the SADNESS fade.

FAITH

WhatKeepsMeAlive

Faith keeps me strong and endure all the pain that life gives me. It makes sure that I will never end a day without a single smile. How lucky I am to have a companion who never forget to give me inspiration and energy to survive everything.

I am KETTE M. CAPITULO, 18 years of age and I have different sides that makes me WHO I AM

MakeupHolics

When I was young I used to hide my aunts makeup and bring it to school.

My teacher always laugh at me because I put too much makeup it makes
me look like a clown.I was really happy whenever my mother gave me makeup
when it's christmas. She knows how I love makeups until now.

Whenever I see makeup in the mall I get it and buy it.I learned how to put makeup
because I used to watch makeup tutorials in Youtube. I remember when I was in high school my friend ask me to put makeup on her because she will take a picture after. A teacher saw her and ask her who did her makeup so she pointed me. The teacher ask me that if I can help her to do her daughter's makeup because her daughter had joined a pageant. I was scared at first beacuse it was my first time and it might failed. My Mother's friend keeps on telling me I have potential on putting makeup. I was really happy whenever I hear it.

I also get offended sometimes because some of the people say that we wear makeup because we are ugly. Actually it's not the reason why we love makeup. I saw 4 reasons in the internet and it's actually my reason too why we women wear makeup. Credits to the owner.I change some of it.

1. Really, we just do it for ourselves.

Okay, do not get me wrong: I truthfully admit that sometimes the only reason girls wear make up to impress guys and sometimes even other girls. However, most mornings, I can honestly say the only person I put on make up for is myself. When I have makeup on, I feel good. I don’t feel ugly without it, but it gives me that extra confident boost that you need once in a while.

2. It’s PURRTYYY.

Makeup is an art. When my friends ask me to do their makeup, I honestly feel more artistic than I have ever felt in my life. Personally, I’ve always felt like my creativity has staggered as I’ve gotten older. However, when I am doing makeup on myself or someone else, I feel like there are no limits. I can try out different techniques without out the fear of it “going to waste” because if you mess up, all you do is start over again.

3. It corrects thing that we cannot always correct on our own.

Like if you have dark circles. If you have small pimple that ruins your good looking face. You can always cover it with a good concealer.

4. It’s a way to be expressive.

When I see a woman with dramatic plum shadow, high-blushed cheekbones, and nude glossy lips, I can immediately sense a way in which she expresses herself. Some girls go for the natural look and others go for the dramatic, sexy look. Either way, I can gage a tiny part of their personality. My sister, who usually never ever goes dramatic, is far more reserved and quiet in a beautiful way. I, on the contrary, always go dramatic, which makes sense because people usually describe me outspoken and crazy. It doesn’t always work in that way, but more often than not, makeup says things about a woman they usually do not say on their own.
Needless to say, you are beautiful whether you choose to wear makeup or not. Don’t feel pressured to wear make up because other women do. Do not wear it because you think you’re at an age where it’s necessary to start wearing it. Wear it because you want to. Wear it as a form of creativity and expression.

Heneral Luna

Have you seen the movie Heneral Luna already? if you haven't go ahead and watch it!

Do you know Heneral Luna? He was a Filipino general who fought in the Philippine–American War. He was regarded as the most brilliant of the Filipino military officers during the war.
The first time I saw the trailer of Heneral Luna I know that it will be interesting to watch.I find the movie good because they really make us see how Americans treat Filipinos. It also make me sad because even filipinos betrayed filipinos. If you did watch it  I know we felt the same while watching the movie.

This picture and its description totally shares the grievances and complaints General Antonio Luna has. We Filipino tends to forget what is the meaning of patriotism. We are scared of sacrificing our personal interest even in the midst of a raging war. This scene always acts as my reminder that our personal interest may be in favor for "US" obviously but in return it will cause troubles in the long run to the majority. Like General Antonio Luna once told, We should let go of the things that hindrances us from separating ourselves from our own selfish personal interest.

Heneral Luna (the movie) also thought us how to be a disciplinary leader and a disciplined person. A discipline leader attracts respect and a positively act of fear from your underlings in a group. Fear that causes us to react properly in a orderly manner, fear that means productivity for the majority and fear that teaches us how to know what are the things we stand for.

In the end this movie is great, it shows us the flaws of every person even if that someone is a hero. Indeed political interest that does not tends to bring the majority of the nation to success will result to a fall of the first reason why and what are leaders are oblige to.

Sacrifice is indeed a valuable elements to achieve greatness. One who values discipline and has the courage to disregard his/her personal interest is the leader we need back then and most importantly TODAY.
Blessed be our NATION.
